Help:Stub

From Ancient Near East

(Redirected from Stub)

A stub, for purposes of this encyclopedia, is a short article that begins to discuss a topic but does not go into detail. Usually stubs are a couple of paragraphs long at most and consist of a short summary of the topic.

[edit] Why have stubs?

Having the option of creating stub articles allows people who may have only general knowledge of a topic to start articles on that topic without feeling obligated to look up all of the details. Labeling as a stub places the article in a special category, where experts looking to expand articles may find it and expand it into a fully-fleshed out article.

In essence, it helps our wiki grow more quickly and encourages contribution from all users.

[edit] What can I do with stubs?

Any user may expand a stub to add more information, improve organization, or otherwise change the article in any way they see fit, just as they can with a normal article. The stubs category lists all pages tagged as stubs; these articles are topics in need of expansion.

[edit] How do I make a stub?

Just start an article that does not already exist on a topic relavent to the Ancient Near East wiki, and write a few sentences regarding the topic. Then add the {{stub}} template tag at the end of the article to label it as a stub.

You should also add this tag to any articles you come across that should be stubs but are not labeled as such.
